Since 1680 the fires that blazed in the glasshouse at Whitefriars burnt unquenched for 300 years. When they moved site in 1923 a lit brazier was carried to their new site and used to light the first furnace, to keep up this tradition. Following the closure in October 1980, the site was quickly cleared and then demolished to make way for new developments. The aim of this page is to provide a legacy for the work undertaken at this magnificent site.
